Summer is in full swing, which means many people are planning barbecues and parties for their friends and family. Parties are supposed to be fun, not stressful and hectic! Here are some simple things to remember when you’re planning to help make your summer BBQ a breeze.
Before you do anything, plan a date that works best for you! You’re not going to be able to please everyone, especially if you are hosting a larger party, so pick a date and time and set it in stone. This way no one can ask you to move your party after you have already started inviting guests and receiving RSVPs. Make sure to give your guests plenty of time to mark their calendars. If you have a few guests that you absolutely want there, then it’s okay to ask for their preferences before picking a final date, but don’t send out the invites until you have for sure decided on one! If you want to make sure everyone has a chance to stop by, then you can start your party earlier or end it later to fit your guests’ needs. For a smaller party, you could probably just send text messages or make a few phone calls about a week in advance and then a reminder text a couple days before. If you plan on having a hefty invite list, it would probably be better to go a more formal route and send invites via mail or e-mail.
Make sure you have enough food and drink options to accommodate everyone’s needs. At any kind of summer party, you cannot go wrong with hamburgers and hotdogs but you may need vegetarian or gluten free options for some guests. Salad, fruit, vegetable trays or skewers, corn-on-the-cob are all great options to provide for your friends and family. For dessert, individual servings are usually easiest such as cookies, cupcakes, and brownies. Ice cream is a nice summer treat but be prepared for people to get a little messy (especially children) on a hot, summer afternoon.
Music is a must but be courteous of your fellow neighbors. If your cookout transitions into a late-evening party, make sure you start to turn down your music at a reasonable time. It would put a huge damper on your party if you get a noise complaint! Wireless speakers are perfect for summer parties. It might even be nice to hang some Christmas lights outside and/or light a few Tiki Torches for some ambience and summer-night vibes. You can never go wrong with a summer party to bring together friends and family, so keep these tips in mind when you start planning yours!
